Meet Coconut the Rescue Bunny!

Growing up, I had pet bunnies and I loved them so much. I have always wanted to rescue a bunny but for one reason or another, never got around to it so as you can imagine, after seeing the cutest bunny ever sitting with no family at the Vegas Animal Foundation, I really wanted to see if I could figure out a plan to save him! And yes, Coconut is a boy, to our surprise lol. The shelter planned to spay her today but they called us a bit ago to let us know that she was actually a he and asked if we still wanted him!? Of course, we said YES! So, today at 6pm we will get to pick up our precious new Angora rescue bunny to finally have an official Bunny’s Buddies BUNNY rescue!

Right now, like most cities, the Las Vegas animal shelters are in a crisis. Luckily, we were able to save one more dog from them yesterday, Atlas, as they are having to kill dogs due to overcrowding. We had one person available to foster in Las Vegas so we swung by the local shelter the Animal Foundation to see who we could help. I was shocked at how many amazing and perfect babies there were in need. We got Atlas safe and we could not be happier to welcome him to the BB family!

While we were there, we then spotted Coconut, any bunny lovers dream rabbit, an Angora! Every year, tens of thousands of rabbits are surrendered to shelters and rescues across the country, often for reasons that are preventable. In fact, rabbits are the third most commonly surrendered pet in the U.S., right behind dogs and cats!

While they’re often seen as quiet, low-maintenance starter pets, the reality is that rabbits require just as much time, care, and commitment as any other companion animal and when those needs aren’t understood, it’s the bunnies who suffer. So, I am excited to give one lucky bunny, their dream happily ever after. A BIG thank you to everyone who donated to both Atlas and Coconut this week, it’s an honor to save them! Look how smart and handsome Atlas is!?

Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed with surrendered rabbits, many of whom arrive sick, neglected, or terrified so we hope to highlight Coconut’s rescue story to encourage others give a bunny in need a chance all of their own. Stay tuned for major bunny content! When people learn that rabbits can be litter trained, live indoors, enjoy companionship, and thrive on a species-appropriate diet, they begin to see them not as throwaway pets but as the intelligent, affectionate, and deeply rewarding companions they truly are. We love you Coconut and cannot wait to spoil you silly!

Want to adopt either Atlas or Coconut?! Step 1 is to learn more about our process. We very much operate differently, intentionally! We are looking for people who truly want to help these poor babies heal. After so much betrayal and neglect, we are here to give back to them, it’s their World now! Both Atlas and Coconut are located in Las Vegas but anyone motivated can adopt them. Simply get to Vegas and road trip home. Coconut is small enough to fly home somewhere as a carry on, however, Atlas is too big so he would need to road trip home with you. Many of our adopters make a fun road trip out of it because let’s face it, they’re so worth it! Ready to welcome a new rescue animal in? Apply today!
